Château Maumont – a beautifully restored château that's the perfect place to rest awhile
If you’re idea of heaven is a restored château with a décor that is a very now mix of old and new, then Château Maumont is for you. Not far from Angoulême in distance, drive through the landscaped gardens to the front door and you will immediately enter a relaxing and elegant world that feels light years away from the hustle and bustle.
The château has three bedrooms (see below) and two suites and all are styled in a stylish mix of traditional and contemporary for a mood that is ultra-comfortable. All have ADSL connection.
The living room, with its magnificent medieval fireplace that’s lit in winter, is the perfect place to wind down. Outside descend the winding stone staircases into the stunning garden with its shrubberies and ancient trees, and stroll through shady paths and explore the bamboo ‘forest’ and the lovely chapel. Take in the view of the Touvre river and its charming stone bridge and the swans that swim right up to the château, as well as the Romanesque churches in the distance.
The delicious breakfast, which is included in the room rate, is served in the splendid dining room, and dinner is available upon request.
The château is also a fabulous place for gatherings, whether an intimate cocktail reception or a sumptuous wedding. The three smaller salons, one with a piano, are just the thing for a smaller event. For weddings, choose the very beautiful reception room that comfortably seats 100 people.
Not just close to Angoulême, it is also en excellent place from which to explore the beautiful Charente countryside including Cognac country and Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, officially considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.
It is also ideally suted to a weekend away - Paris is 90 minutes away on the TGV and Angoulême-Cognac airport is less than 30 minutes. Poitiers airport is about one hour.
