High-quality gîte in rural Charente with internet access
La Grande Garde at Bunzac in the east Charente is an ideal gîte from which to explore the delights of this beautiful part of the department as well as the whole region of Poitou-Charentes, the Limousin and the Dordogne. The gîte, owned by Jean-Luc and Elisabeth Laborde, can accommodate up to five people and has all the modern conveniences, including internet access.
The accommodation
On the first floor the gîte has two bedrooms, one equipped with a double bed, the other with three single beds. There is also a bathroom and a separate toilet. Downstairs is an open plan kitchen diner, plus another toilet and a cellar area. The house is equipped to very high standards, with the facilities including a cooker, coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, telephone, internet access, television, iron and toaster. There are also facilities for young children including a high chair. For cooler times of the year there is electric heating – you simply pay for what you consume – plus a free supply of wood for the wood burner. Outside there is an enclosed garden, a courtyard and a barbecue set so you can enjoy alfresco meals French-style!
The area
La Grande Garde is situated among some of the Charente’s most beautiful countryside. Close by are a number of old restored mills that are in working order and which welcome visitors – the mill trail is known as the circuit des moulins de Bandiat-Tardoire. Just 5km away is the historic town of La Rochefoucauld, which has lots of facilities and is best known for its wonderful château – which is open to the public. The fascinating caves of Quéroy are also close by as is the Braconne forest, where you can walk, ride a mountain bike or ride on horseback. Other leisure activities such as canoeing, tennis, swimming and golf are also all within easy reaching distance.
