If you happen to venture into Salt Lake Utah for a business trip or a vacation you must take the time to check out The Gateway. The Gateway is a combination of residential, open-air retail, and office complexes in the downtown area of Salt Lake Utah. This unique complex has over 100 restaurants and stores and is definitely worth your time to visit. Besides a combination of entertainment, shopping, and dining it also offers amazing scenery.
Before the 2002 Winter Olympics there was an urban development project that began in Salt Lake City. This urban development project included the Gateway which became operational just before the 2002 Winter Olympics. Some of the other highlights of this urban development project were the Clark Planetarium, the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum, the Megaplex 12, and the Depot. Directly across the street from The Gateway is the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
The Gateway incorporated the old Union Pacific Building which was restored and renovated and which was, and still is, a very important part of Utah’s history. In fact, many say that it has always been the most outstanding architectural structure in the state of Utah. The Grand Hall of the Union Pacific Building is the entrance to The Gateway. In this entrance you will see a unique and beautiful fountain that is a must-see for anyone who visits Salt Lake City. What makes this fountain unique is a choreographed dance of water along with an amazing selection of lights and music. The Grand Hall is often the first choice for dozens of corporate functions, weddings, fundraisers, reunions, and school proms.
As mentioned previously, there are many additional attractions incorporated into The Gateway. For example, the Clark Planetarium is an excellent place to explore and see what’s out there. There are over 10,000 ft.² of exhibits. You will be able to also experience unbelievable and incredible visuals in the ATK 3D IMAX Theater or the Hansen Dome Theater. Families of all ages will enjoy a visit to the Planetarium Store where you find a large variety of books, science toys, videos, and telescopes.
The shopping hours for The Gateway are Monday to Saturday from 10 AM until 9 PM. On Sunday they are open from 12 PM until 6 PM. The Gateway is located in the heart of Salt Lake City on 400 W. which is between 200 S. and the South Temple
