Why choose the Poitou-Charentes? The weather - we have the most sunshine hours outside the Med. Also, discover our sandy beaches, sunflower fields, towering châteaux, oak forests and pretty towns and villages. There's lots to do - cycling, riding, walking and water sports plus great golf courses! Enjoy a slice of typical French life, from Atlantic coastal resorts where the French holiday to lively markets. Don't forget cognac, wine & pineau too!
Poitou-Charentes is also great for family holidays. Excellent value for money, it’s full of child-friendly beaches, animal and leisure parks.

Market shopping is one of the pleasures of French life – for residents and holidaymakers alike. One of my favourite markets is at Chauvigny in the Vienne, where people of all ages and sizes jostle good-naturedly against each other as they shop amongst the stalls bulging with many different kinds of bread, cheese, fruit and vegetables. Butchers proudly show off their home-mades patés and then there are the stalls overflowing with a myriad of differently flavoured saucissons. Chickens squawk and canaries sing amongst traders selling an incredible array of household items from tablecloths and saucepans to wooden spoons and small pots of herbs.
