Restaurants, bars and cafés in Fouras and Rochefort

The Fouras peninsula or the ‘almost island’ as it is known locally is a popular tourist spot – it’s Rochefort’s beach resort - so there are lots of restaurants, cafés and bars for visitors.
In Fouras-les-Bains, the area’s small town, the best place for seafood restaurants is along the edge of the town opposite the resoort’s main beach the Grande Plage. These are along avenue Général de Gaulle and offer great views while you relax over lunch or dinner. There are also bars and restaurants to be found just a short walk away in the centre of Fouras-les-Bains itself.
The other main area for restaurants – again with an emphasis on seafood – is at the far end of the Fouras peninsula, near the boarding area for boats to the Île d’Aix and for trips to see Fort Boyard – the location is known as Pointe de la Fumée so this or the boulevard de la Fumée are the addresses to look out for.
This is certainly a great place to eat out as you can see the sea on both sides of youon this narrow spit of land. A word of advice, however; if you are driving make sure you get to your restaurant in plenty of time as parking can be a little tricky to find, those the establishments here do have their own parking areas.

PLACES TO EAT IN ROCHEFORT

In Rochefort itself the eating out is less touristy – indeed, at least one restaurant admits to doing rather better from September to May rather than the peak summer period. But in contrast to Fouras there is certainly more choice of different types of restaurant in Rochefort. In the large central place Colbert you can find snacks, ice creams and drinks at two large café bars.
There is upmarket eating at the Corderie Royale’s restaurant Les Longitudes and traditional French cooking and also pizza restaurants in avenue Charles de Gaulle near place Colbert. Also nearby there are restaurants in rue Lesson, rue Thiers and rue Jean Jaures. There are several Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants, including in avenue la Fayette and rue Grimaux, and a couple of Northa African places to eat out, in rue Lesson and avenue William Ponty.
If you’re missing the taste of curry there is also an Indian restaurant in Rochefort’s rue Audry de Puyravault.
